Where do I have to be living in order to apply for a Dr. John B. Stewart Scholarship?
Applicants must be a graduate of a high school located Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Richmond, Victoria and Cape Breton counties in Nova Scotia.
Can I apply if I am going to attend a university somewhere in Canada other than Nova Scotia?
Yes. We are able to offer scholarships to students attending university in other provinces.
Can I apply if I am going to attend a university outside of Canada?
No, The criteria require the applicant by attending a university program in Canada.
I am going to attend a community college (e.g. NSCC) or some other College for a diploma or certificate. Can I still apply?
No. Unfortunately we can only consider applications from graduates looking to attend a degree program from a University.
Are the scholarships renewable?
No, our scholarships are entrance scholarships and only available in your first year at university.
How many scholarships are given out?
Each year the trustees look at the income from our investments and determine how many scholarships can be awarded. In 2023, we gave out 40 scholarships.
How much are the Scholarships worth?
The scholarships are worth up to $2000.
I graduated last year and am looking to go to University for the first time in the fall. Can I still apply?
Yes. The scholarships are open to any graduates from the counties listed above who are attending their first year at a Canadian university.
