Who is eligible to apply for a Dr. John B. Stewart Scholarship?
Applicants must be a graduating from a high school located in Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Richmond, Victoria and Cape Breton counties in Nova Scotia, a permanent resident or citizen of Canada, and be accepted into a full time undergraduate degree program at an accredited university in Canada.

What happens after I apply?
After you send us your application package you’ll receive a confirmation email. After March 31st the Trustees meet and begin to consider the applications. If you receive a scholarship you will get a letter in the mail later in May or early in June (always before graduation). The scholarship cheques are mailed in the summer (usually in July).

When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is March 31. Any complete application uploaded or postmarked on or before March 31 will be considered.

Is there a way to confirm you got my application?
We send a confirmation email to the address on your scholarship application when we receive your application. If you uploaded your application you will get a reply within 2-3 business days. If you mailed your application you should get a reply within a week or so (depends on Canada Post). You are always welcome to send an email to scholarshipinfo@nnsf.ca and check on whether we have received your application.

How much are the scholarships?
In 2023, the scholarships awarded were $2000 each.

Are these scholarships renewable?
No, the scholarships are entrance scholarships awarded to high school graduates entering University for the first time.

What if I graduated from High School last year but didn’t attend University?
You are still eligible to apply if you graduated from a High School in the area of Nova Scotia mentioned above and are planning to attend an accredited University in Canada.

Can I still apply if I am attending NSCC, NSCAD, or another college for a diploma?
Unfortunately the scholarships are only available for students attending an accredited University in Canada for an undergraduate degree.

Can I apply if I am going to a university out side of Nova Scotia?
Certainly. As long as the university you will attending is within Canada you are eligible to apply.
