Where do I have to be living in order to apply for a Dr. John B. Stewart Scholarship?

Applicants must be a graduate of a high school located Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Richmond, Victoria and Cape Breton counties in Nova Scotia.

Can I apply if I am going to attend a university outside of Nova Scotia?

The criteria require the applicant to be attending a undergraduate university program in Canada.

I am going to attend a community college (e.g. NSCC) or some other College for a diploma or certificate. Can I still apply?

No. Unfortunately we can only consider applications from graduates looking to attend a degree program from a University.

Are the scholarships renewable?

No, our scholarships are entrance scholarships and only available in your first year at university.

How many scholarships are given out?

Each year the trustees look at the income from our investments and determine how many scholarships can be awarded. In 2020 we gave out 32 scholarships.

How much are the Scholarships worth?

In 2020 the scholarships were each $1000.

I graduated last year and am looking to go to University for the first time in the fall. Can I still apply?

Certainly. The scholarships are open to any graduates from the counties listed above who are attending their first year at a Canadian university.

I’m not sure which University I will attend. Can I still apply?

Certainly. Please indicate your possibilities on the application form and fill out a financial sheet to show the different costs.

Applications for 2022 Dr. John B. Stewart Scholarships closed on March 31, 2022.

If you applied you will receive an email confirming that we received your application.

The Trustees will meet in April and scholarship recipients will be notified by mail.
